And Now For Some Good News

Because these days, we need all we can get..

Evangelicals Fear the Loss of Their Teenagers

"...if current trends continue, only 4 percent of teenagers will be “Bible-believing Christians” as adults."

"...there is widespread consensus among evangelical leaders that they risk losing their teenagers. "

“I’m looking at the data,” said Ron Luce, who organized the meetings and founded Teen Mania, a 20-year-old youth ministry, “and we’ve become post-Christian America, like post-Christian Europe. We’ve been working as hard as we know how to work — everyone in youth ministry is working hard — but we’re losing.”

The article also states that there are many within the evengelical community who dispute these claims. But like I said, we need any good news we can get, so I'm going to have "faith" that the claims are true, and take comfort in that.

Fucking great news if this is true. The less Xtians, the better!

I don't really give a shit about what some dead guy said 2000 years ago.

That's some great news. Evangelicals have distorted the message of Christ so bad, they don't even know what the fuck they believe anymore. Evangelicals are full of shit and it's good that their membership decreases. We don't need a theocracy in the U.S.

Fuck yes. I, for one, am proud to be one of the 96% of teenagers who WON'T be a bible-thumping conservative sheep when I become an adult. Like one of the above posters said, the less christians the better.

yes, they fundies have been pissing in the punch bowl for a couple of decades, and its gotten worse in the past 6-8 years. But that may just be the point. teenagers are predictable in one area, they tend to rebel against the status quo. Hippies were a reaction to the square 50s. Disco was reaction against hippies. Punk a reaction against disco and hippies. And the "Young republican" 80s and Wall Street Worship was a reaction against the economic and social liberalism of the 60s and 70s.

I think what we may be seeing is a youth culture who has witnessed and been turned off to the excesses of screetching fundamentalism. While the adults are fossilized in their views, kids are more open. They may be seeing the coorelation between the horrors of Islamic fundamentalism and the stupidity and potential horror of Christian fundamentalism.

One can hope, anyway

Why there is still hope for the kids:

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him."

Well, I must be the only Christian left who fully supports the assasination of theocracies worldwide.

I find that the stronger my faith gets, the less patience I have for TV assholes who tell everybody what to do and think and who to write checks to. That is so far beyond the message of Christ that it makes me sick.

Faith and government have no business being associated with each other. A government that claims religeous authority has infinite authority to ruin people's lives, which is what government does best.

A faithful government derives power from the respect of the governed who have faith in their abilities as public servants, not as preachers or prophets.

By the way, I'm going to be finished with my remote jobsite within a week and a half or so, so I'll be back posting full-time soon.

Here's my new agenda items:

-Republicans are done. They no longer represent the voters who demand freedom in the marketplace, and they refuse to accept the FairTax as a desperately-needed renovation to our fucked-up government. They no longer respresent me, and they can spend two years at home figuring out how to make my voice heard if they ever want earn my vote again. The Libertarian Party has a superior stance on nearly every issue, and I'm not overlooking this any longer.

-Iraq is fucked, and we need out of there, except to keep our large bases where we can maintain our presence should we need another large-scale deployment to the region.

-North Korea and Iran are in terrible need of an ass-whooping, and we can't do it with our fighting machine tied up indefinitely elsewhere. We need to make sure we have the liquidity of force necessary to tea-bag Jong-Ill back to the stone age if he wants to be a hardass.
