Poll Results

Here are the results of the latest polls. The next set of polls will be up shortly. All bands listed below will advance to the next round of polls after we cycle through more bands. Please let me know of any bands that I’ve forgotten, and I’ll try to include them in future polls.

Best band of all time
Led Zeppelin…..38 votes
Black Sabbath…..38 votes

Best Metal band of all time
Metallica…..90 votes

Best punk band of all time
Misfits…..31

Update: I've discovered one of the reasons why Metallica won by so many votes:

Metboard.com
The 4 Horsemen Message Board

These two forums had their members vote several times in the poll. This once again proves that the more organized team always wins.

Should I place permanent links to these forums on my page?

What should be done to lower gas prices?

Our Congress has been trying to formulate a plan to deal with the staggering gas prices we are currently faced with. The Senate Republicans have assembled a proposal that would send $100 to every taxpayer in America, and would open the door for drilling in Alaska. The Democrats in the Senate are proposing an idea of initiating a 60-day fuel tax holiday.

First off, I'm not a fan of either solution. Both seem to be nothing more than knee-jerk reactions to a major problem facing our country today. Both are VERY short-tem solutions to a long term problem.

The Republican idea of sending everyone $100 is simply awful. How much though went into that? Not much is my guess. Everyone will blow their hundred dollers quicly and then still be left wih high gas prices.

The Democrats plan, I believe, is a better, more thought-out plan. By lifting the federal fuel tax, citizens will see immediate relief to the gas prices and will continue to see this relief for a whopping 60 days.

We need a long-term solution!

We need to find viable alternative fuels. We need to produce more fuel-effecient automobiles. We need to decrease our dependence on oil from the Middle East. If this means we nee to drill in Alaska, I'm not totally opposed to that, but I don't think that will solve the problem.

To alleviate confussion about issues involving gas prices, I recommend you read this article from the How Stuff Works site.

Fair Tax argument of the day

So I was booking my flight to Germany on a popular traveler's website, and this summary came up:

Travelers Price

1 adult = $ 630.00
Taxes and Fees = $ 259.20
Service Fee = $ 5.00
Total Price = $ 894.20

Consider those taxes and fees. Those are not the website's fees, those are government-imposed fees that add up to 29% of the price of the ticket as calculated exclusively. Inclusively calculated, it's clear that this 41.1% tax is well beyond the 23% exclusive/30% inclusive tax that some of our legislators have proposed in the Fair Tax bill. Basically, in this situation the Fair tax would not only keep me from throwing a healthy fraction of my paycheck into the boondoggle that we call the IRS, it would also save me on the sales tax of my purchase.

Once the airlines were released from paying payroll taxes, the price of this flight would likely come down to around $500, assuming a 20% reduction in labor costs (which is the average estimate based on extensive university research). Note that the price of all goods would come down due to the reduced tax burden on those who create jobs. Basically, we'll stop punishing our employers for hiring Americans.

I am more Metal than you.

While in Germany, I'm going to catch a show by a little band that some of us may remember as DOWN. Yeah, I'll be rocking out Nola-style with Phil (Pantera), Pepper (CoC), Rex (Pantera), Kirk (Crowbar), and Jimmy (Eyehategod) in the motherland. Traveling halfway across the world to catch your favorite band and drink the best beer on earth = METAL.

Goodbye Scotty!

...and the new White House Press secretary should be none other than:

Anyone remember this jerkoff claiming that American forces were committing suicide by the hundreds? Scotty McClellan often made similar ridiculous claims regarding the Bush administration. Looks like "Baghdad Bob" will fit quite well!

New Poll

As you can see, I've created a new poll to determine the best rock band of all time. Before anyone starts saying shit like "You forgot Journey" or some bullshit like that, just enter the name of the sorry ass band you think should have made my list and I'll have a "best of the rest" poll next week. I'll then put the winner of that poll head-to-head against the winner of this poll. I wonder who'll win. Probably not Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Update:

I've added the first 10 bands of the best metal bands of all time. I will add another 10 bands next week.

The Rightwing Chicken Littles are at it again

Image hosting by Photobucket

Uh oh, look out. It appears that us evil secular liberals have decided to wage a WAR ON EASTER! (I must have missed that memo from Evil Secular headquarters)

Either that or John Gibson needed an excuse to write another book.

I swear these fucktards just get dumber, crazier and more shrill
by the week. Are they that desperate for some kind of issue to distract from the Rethuglican's implosion?

I say we have some fun with these wingnuts: Around early to mid June, we start rumblings about a War on Independence day, and watch the Freepers and hillbillies freak out.

These kinds of idiots almost make me favor forced sterilizations.

And, since Easter is really just a sanitized pagan fertility festival, can we rename the Easter Bunny to The Fuck Bunny?

Update: Because the Rightwing Chicken-Little Hawks have been screaching about a phoney "War on Easter" the producers of a documentary entiled The God Who Wasn't There have begun to use the "War" as a clever marketing strategy. Check out the classic pranksterism they are engaged in.

U.S. Planning Military Strikes on Iran

This is an issue I'm somewhat torn on. Something needs to be done about the growing threat in Iran, but the U.S. is not prepared to go to war with Iran. Our military resources are already spread too thin. The U.N. will most likely never come together on the issue to put International military pressure on Iran. What do we do?

There has been a lot of talk over the weekend about the possibility of a preemptive nuclear strike on nuclear research facilities in Iran. I for one, hope this does not move out of the talking phase. This would be the worst mistake, in a long series of serious mistakes, that our President could make. This would do nothing but cause more anger direct at the U.S., and could potentially contaminate an area where we already have thousands of our young men and women stationed.

That is my take on the situation. Please let me know what you think.

Grand Old Police Blotter

What is the deal with Republicans and Religious Conservatives and their tastes for young meat?

The Catholic church fired a photographer who released a picture of Scalia making the "vaffenculo" gesture on the front steps of a church he just exited, but for years kept known kiddie rapers on the payroll, merely sending them to a different Diocese when one of their Friar Fucks got busted.

But ignore the fact that Catholocism is a conservative ideology. When priests around the nation get caught diddling the alter boys, just blame liberals, like Little Ricky Santorum did.

Brian J. Doyle, Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested for trying to pick up a 12 year old girl on the internet.
I'm sure this is the first time he's ever attempted this. Its just pure dumb luck that he got busted on his very first time on the prowl. No child has ever been harmed by this fine upstanding man. He just had a moment of weakness. Maybe Denny Hastert would call it a "youthful indiscretion." He's learned his lesson. Let the poor man be.

Frank Figueroa, used to run Operation Predator, the Department of Homeland Security's program to bust child sex criminals. Frankie pleaded no contest to the charge that he "pulled up a leg of his shorts, exposed himself and masturbated for about 10 minutes" in front of a 16 year old girl in a shopping mall. Guess he was just getting some practical experience for his job.

NBC's Dateline program had a hidden camera expose of child predators recently and they nabbed another DHS officer, Michael Burks: Various men ranging in age from 19 to the mid-60s had conducted sexually explicit on-line conversations with what they believed to be boys or girls 12 or 13 years of age. They agreed to a rendezvous at a house in Southern California, where a Dateline correspondent and camera crew awaited them – as well as a contingent from the Sheriff's Department. Mikey was one of them.

Here's what he said on tape: "My father was a police officer. I was a police officer. I work for the Department of Homeland Security. I understand you guys have a job to do and I’m not trying to tell anything else other than that. I swear to God, as God as my witness, I’m wearing a St. Michael’s medal right now, okay? I was not going to do anything with her."

Those are just the most recent examples. These two links have lists of accused and convicted Rethuglican pedophiles. There's some overlap, but a good number of unique entries.
Grand Old Pedophiles
Grand Old Perverts

What's one of the fastest growing destinations on the planet for men seeking sex with children?
Atlanta, the buckle of the U.S. Bible Belt.

But hey reich-wingers, if kiddies aren't your thing, you can always anally rape your wife repeatedly and still get a prominent appointment from Bush.

But when all else fails, and you have to face a judge and jury, you can always use the insanity defense.

Bush is Still Struggling For Public Approval

WASHINGTON -
President Bush has hit new lows in public opinion for his handling of
Iraq and the war on terror and for his overall job performance. Polling also shows the Republican Party surrendering its advantage on national security.

The AP-Ipsos survey is loaded with grim election-year news for a party struggling to stay in power. Nearly 70 percent of Americans believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction — the largest percentage during the Bush presidency and up 13 points from a year ago.

Haha! The Bush Adminatration is going down the drain.

'Nuff Said!!

The Culture of Paranoia in action

First we get the citizens of the most powerful nation in the history of mankind to run and hide in terror while wetting their beds about religious wingnuts with boxcutters. Now, our fellow fear mongerers across the pond get themselves all in a tizzy about.... Somone's musical taste?

This is what happens in a culture RULED BY FEAR:

The Clash spark terror alert
Man pulled off plane for music taste

The Clash and Led Zeppelin's music sparked a terror alert on an aeroplane, it has emerged.

Harraj Mann from Hartlepool was pulled off a London-bound flight at Durham Tees Valley Airport on March 30. He was questioned under the Terrorism Act after it's believed his choice of music made a taxi driver suspicious.

Mann was able to play his own music through the cab's stereo on the way to his flight, but it seems the driver did not approve.

"I played Procol Harum's 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' first, which the taxi man liked," Mann explained. "I figured he liked the classics, so I put on Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song'. Then, since I was going to London, I played The Clash ('London Calling') and finished up with 'Nowhere Man' by The Beatles. He didn't like Led Zeppelin or The Clash, but I don't think there was any need to tell the police."

It seems The Clash's lyrics which include "War is declared and battle come down", alarmed the cabbie who alerted police, while Led Zeppelin's line about "The hammer of the gods will rive our ship to new lands, to fight the horde", probably didn't help either.

Durham Police then acted on "information received" but admitted "by the time it was established the man did not pose a security risk, the plane had taken off", The Mirror reports.

Mann, however, said he saw the funny side of the incident, telling his local newspaper the Hartlepool Mail: "I was laughing about it, but all my mates are absolutely furious. It's just left me bemused. I can agree that there's a culture of fear. They acted on the information they had. I'm just frustrated that it happened to me. It's a mystery."

Abusive Trolls Suck

Due to the fact that my blog received 10 inflammatory comments in a matter of minutes from the same "anonymous" poster (spunky1), I have limited the comments to blogger members only. Everyone who frequents my blog knows that I'm strongly against censorship of any kind, but I refuse to let a hate-spewing troll disrespect me in my house. Hopefully this is a temporary status, but it is a necessary action. I apologize to any non-blogger members who want to make legitimate comments. Feel free to e-mail me at any time.

Update: for the sake of fairness, anyone can read this asshole's comments on this bbmouth thread, but there is no reason I can think of that I should allow someone to disrespect me onmu blog.

GOP = Grand Old Pedophiles

...and the Ted Nugent Lifetime Acheivement Award goes to: Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Department of Homeland Security Brian J. Doyle

I posted a list of Republicans and "Conservatives" who have been busted on child porn and/or child molestaton charges. Add another scumbag on the barbie.

What I want to know is this; Do perverts and kiddie gropers naturally gravitate toward the GOP because they want some kind of sexually repressive culture to help them curb their appetites, or do they gravitate toward the GOP because the common character trait that GOPers share with pedophiles? The character trait in question is the need for dominance. All experts on pedophilia agree that one of key reasons that some people like to boff kiddies is that kids are easy to manipulate, dominate and control. Pedophiles, like GOPigs need to control others to feel empowered.

Or maybe they're just fucking evil.

War on Who?

If you're not yet convinced that defining quality of Right Wing Christianity is STARK RAVING LUNACY, read This

Time for the sane people to stock up on weaponry.

Update by BND:
This issue has been a very hot topic of debate here recently. the other day, The (liberal) Girl Nextdoor posted about this issue, and how Athiests are viewed as being amoral. Her post is very well written deserves a good read through. One thing for sure is that I will take no moral advice from Tom DeLay (who was a keynote speaker at the conference referenced in blsabob's posted link.

Thanks,
BND

Up-Update from BL Sabob:

Breaking News: DeLay has Dropped Re-election Bid

I just heard on CNN that Tom DeLay will make an official announcement on Tuesday ending his bid for re-election to the US House of Representatives. Here is a link to the story on CNN's website.

One down, many to go!

Sen. Obama takes aim at Bush's Energy Policies

Today in a statement prepared for AP, Ill. Senator Barrack Obama blasted the the Bush administration's energy and environmental policies. "As gas prices keep rising, the Middle East grows ever more unstable and the ice caps continue to melt, we face a now-or-never, once-in-a-generation opportunity to set this country on a different course," Obama said.

Obama suggested that the government should provide tax breaks and loan guarantees to companies that become leaders in the movement towards more environmentally friendlier energy sources. One suggestion came in legislation he introduce to Congress that would help the big three automakers pay for retiree health care, so the auto makers can reinvest this money in retooling their factories to produce more fuel-efficient cars.
