Weighing in on the new Metallica song

Live footage of Metallica playing new song at the Download Festival in England. Video quality is not great, but the sound is decent for a concert bootleg. This is one of the better Metallica songs I've heard in years. I hope Rick Rubin will straighten these fools out. What do you think?

Well its better then St. Anger. But it sure as hell isnt Seek and Destory or even The Struggle Within. It sounds like they are going back to the Load/Reload years. My overall impression would be that they will not be going back to their thrash metal roots. That wasnt even metal. I dont like it but it's better then almost anything on St. Anger.

I'm just trying to think positive Mr. Bundy. I would like to hear this song after Rubin gets ahold of it, but I still don't care for Hetfields new style of singing.

Huge improvement over St. Anger. We'll have to wait and hear what it will sound like in the studio version. So far, so good. I'm actually looking forward to their new stuff.

I heard this song on Sirius last week. I'll reserve final judgement until Metal Jedi Master Rick Rubin is done bitch-slapping them around the studio.

However, through the fuzy audio it sounds like it's from the same vein as St. Anger, except with a slightly more aggressive riff and bass that that sounds like it was played on purpose.

Big ups to Kirk on the solos- they sound progressive and kickass. Kirk and Bob are the only musicians who are doing anything at all these days to advance their musical craft. Kirk stays busy with his classical crossover projects, and Bob is so new and excited he probably still practices every day.

The song is badly in need of a producer. It was way too long, requiring the distilling of a master like Rubin, much the same as Jack Daniels took barrels of skunky sour mash and turned it into Tennessee Whiskey perfection.

A band shouldn't need a producer this badly, but I guess when you're all millionaire 40-somethings with uncontrollable egos, you need a babysitter with an assault rifle to make them play metal.

By the way, if you guys are ever in need of a babysitter with an assault rifle, I can arrange that.

I don't even know what that (^) means, but it sounded pretty M3T4L!!!
