Reinstate the Draft?

You might expect this from blood-thirsty, baby-killing Republicans, but check out his "D" next to the "New York". Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is introducing legislation to bring back conscription to the United States. I look forward to watching his credibility, and his head roll after dropping that gem of a bill.

In my opinion, no free country should ever have to force its people into military service. If our leadership represents us, then they shouldn't draw us into a conflict so unpopular that we can't staff our armed forces with volunteers.

"No arsenal, no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women."

- Ronald Reagan

I'd rather fight with a squad of volunteers than a whole platoon of Gomer Pile draftees.

I think this guy has an impossible uphill battle reinstating the draft. I don't believe the American people would stand for it, and most Democrats know ths, so I doubt this crappy idea will get very far.

I love the racist undertones in this:

He's listened to System of a Down's "BYOB" until he believed it, now he's asking "Why do they always send the poor?!"

The racist part is when they use minority and lower income interchangably. By saying that minorities aren't as good at earning money, they are crossing the line into racism.

This jackass is making it sound like minorities are all facing the choice of not eating vs. go to Iraq to die for George Bush.

Like you said, BND, this guy is done because 7/10 Americans refuse the idea of a draft.

He knows this proposal is DOA. I think its pretty clear that this is just a symbolic gesture to make Americans think about the consequences of sending the troops out on a long war and occupation.

Not exacly how I'd chose to go about it though.

Bad decision on his part. He needs to learn from Obama!

Everyone should carry the burden equally. Plus, then assholes like Bush would think twice. You think this is a free country? Get your prescription checked.
