Dick Shoots a man. Its no laughing matter

The fact that Dick Cheney blasted a 78 year old man who will now live out the rest of his days with nearly 100 pellets in his body is no laughing matter.

The fact that the administration tried to cover up the incident and only released the information to the public 18 hours later, after the property owner had already told the news media, is no laughing matter.

The fact that Cheney's people originally didn't even tell Bush that Cheney was the shooter is no laughing matter. (well, that sort of is funny)

The fact that Harry Wittington has now had a heart attack is no laughing matter.

So why is the White House laughing?

According to AP:

  • The White House has decided that the best way to deal with Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting accident is to joke about it.
President Bush's spokesman quipped Tuesday that the burnt orange school colors of the University of Texas championship football team that was visiting the White House shouldn't be confused for hunter's safety wear.
"The orange that they're wearing is not because they're concerned that the vice president may be there," joked White House press secretary Scott McClellan, following the lead of late-night television comedians. "That's why I'm wearing it."
The president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, took a similar jab after slapping an orange sticker on his chest from the Florida Farm Bureau that read, "No Farmers, No Food."
"I'm a little concerned that Dick Cheney is going to walk in," the governor cracked during an appearance in Tampa Monday.

Hilarious

That was a bad accident, especially for the Vice President of America. I wish Mr. Wittington a speedy and full recovery.

I just heard about the heart attack, let's hope it's not nearly as serious as it sounds. I'm sure that before they started with the humor they made sure that Wittington was in good condition.

Hunting and fishing accidents suck, and it's no fun to be on either end of your partner's mistakes.

I'm hoping Cheney sticks to the clay target range from now on. He's not doing too well in the free-range quail hunts.

BTW: This is a good, informative post. I look forward to more discussion like this.

Yes. Look at the bruhaha that my parody song caused and then look up the word "irony."

There is a method (and a point) to my madness.

Don'y pay to much attention to Echo. She is a neocon troll associated with those fools at The Texas Connection. Check this fred guy out. He's a hoot.

Don't flatter yourself, it was just me that jumped you for it, and it was purely personal. If anybody else had posted it, I would have just ignored it for childishness.

Since then, it looks like you've taken the BLA Challenge on this post, and the blog is a better place for it.

There is nothing in the Constitution or the laws that says that the media have a right to be in the White House at all, much less to have press conferences.

This has become a customary courtesy over the years, but courtesy is a two-way street, except for those in the media who act like spoiled brats, as if they have some inherent right to whatever serves their institutional, career, or ideological purposes.

The media love to wrap themselves in the mantle of "the public's right to know" but there is no such dedication to that right when it goes against the journalists' own prejudices.
