Bush gets sued

The family of an Al Jazeera reporter killed during a US bombing in Iraq in 2003 will sue President Bush. Tareq Ayyoub, a reporter for Al Jazeera, was killed on April 8, 2003, during a strike of the building in which the Arab-language TV station was housed. Ayyoub was on the roof of the building for a live broadcast. The Pentagon claimed that the attack had been an accident, having fired after it had detected hostile fire from the building. The incident was featured in the 2004 film Control Room, a documentary about the TV network. Hamid Rifai, a New Jersey-based attorney for Ayyoub's family, will bring the case to court tomorrow. The lawsuit was spurred on by the revelation in the UK newspaper The Mirror in November 2005 of a British government memorandum reporting that Bush expressed a desire to bomb Al Jazeera's world headquarters in Doha, Qatar. This is just ridiculous. You can't blame Bush for everything. Maybe it was a bad idea to instigate the war, but it was not Bush's fault that the reporter was killed. He was reporting from a war zone.

If this lawsuit against the President of the United States gets even a second look, then the whole world is fucking screwed. I hereby sue the entire world for me not being happy on June 10, 2006. I will settle out of court for no less than $6,000,000.00

OK, let me get this straight. Our troops see a few arab guys on a roof top setting up equipment (tripod, cameras, lighting, machine gun, anti-aircraft gun, etc...), and they open fire on the building. Do I have this right so far?

You guys know me well enough to know that I'm not a POTUS supporter, but this seems kind of silly to me.

on the other hand, civil action can often redress greivances and bring perpetrators to at least a modecrum of justice when legal remedies fail because the law is biased, corrupt or inept. The OJ Simpson case is a perfect example of this. The lame "justice" system let the fucker go, but at least the civil case made his ability to earn and keep money much more difficult. Another point to be made is that a civil case can often lead to criminal charges. Recall the Clinton/Lewinsky matter. The Paula Jones civil case was a ridiculous joke but Clinton's enemies were able to use it to lure BJ Billy into a perjury trap. It is possible that if Bush has to testify about the motivations and conduct of the war, he'll be forced to perjure himself and we'll be able to nail the fucker.
